Glass skin in 3 steps

Beauty of Joseon Glow Deep Serum Rice + Alpha-Arbutin για glass skin

You've seen it everywhere: faces that seem to glow from within, clear as glass. That's glass skin, one of the most loved trends in Korean skincare. The good news? You don't need perfect skin or an endless routine to get that fresh, hydrated look too.

At Skin Bar we keep it simple: glass skin means skin that is clean, hydrated and protected. Everything else is a bonus.

What glass skin is (and isn't)

Glass skin isn't "skin without pores" or a filter you have to live up to. It's the look of skin that feels smooth, even and has a healthy glow, because it has all the moisture it needs.

The Korean philosophy rests on three things: gentle cleansing, hydration in thin layers and consistent sun protection. A few well-chosen products, every day. Consistency always beats quantity.

Step 1: Cleansing that doesn't feel tight

Glow starts with clean, comfortable skin. If your face feels tight after washing, your cleanser is probably too harsh for you.

At night, try a double cleanse: first a cleansing oil or balm that melts sunscreen and make-up, then a gentle foam or gel cleanser. In the morning the second step is usually enough, or just lukewarm water if your skin is dry.

Find yours among our facial cleansers. Look for mild surfactants and no strong fragrance if your skin is sensitive.

Tip: don't scrub. Use your fingertips in small circles for 30–60 seconds and pat dry with a clean towel.

Step 2: Hydration in layers

This is where the magic happens. Instead of one heavy cream, Koreans prefer thin, light layers that build hydration step by step.

Toner or essence: After cleansing, pour a little toner into your palms and gently press it into your face. For extra glow, do 2–3 thin layers, a light version of the famous "7 skin" method. See our toners & essences.

Serum: A light serum with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, niacinamide or rice extract helps skin look more even and radiant. One of our favourites is the Beauty of Joseon Glow Deep Serum Rice + Alpha-Arbutin, with a light texture that sinks in fast.

Cream: Lock in moisture with a cream that suits your skin type: a gel for oily skin, a richer texture for dry skin. Have a look at our face creams.

Tip: wait 30–60 seconds between layers so each product absorbs and nothing pills.

Step 3: Sunscreen, every single day

If you keep just one step from this article, make it this one. Daily sun protection is the biggest secret to an even tone and a glow that lasts.

Korean sunscreens are known for light, hydrating textures with no white cast, which is why we love them under make-up too. A classic is the Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Rice + Probiotics SPF50+.

Apply enough (about two finger-lengths for face and neck) and reapply every two hours when you're outdoors, especially after swimming or sweating.

Bonus: small habits, big difference

  • Water and sleep: not a cliché, they show on your face.
  • A mask 1–2 times a week: a sheet mask is the easiest self-care evening.
  • Less, not more: if your skin gets irritated, drop steps instead of adding them.
  • Patience: give any new routine at least 4 weeks before judging it.

Before you start

Every skin is different. When you try something new, do a patch test first: apply a little product behind your ear or on your inner arm for 24–48 hours. If you notice redness or itching, stop using it. If you have a skin condition, talk to your dermatologist first.
